After fighting at Cal/OSHA for over eight years for protections, California is now the first State in the Nation to adopt a General Industry Workplace Violence Standard that protects nearly all workers from workplace violence on the job by requiring employers to implement basic protections for their employees while at work.

Workplace violence incidents are becoming more prevalent across various workplaces in California. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), workplace violence is the third leading cause of fatal occupational injuries in the United States, affecting nearly two million American workers annually. On average, 1.3 million nonfatal violent crimes occur in the workplace annually, with female workers having higher rates of nonfatal injuries due to workplace violence resulting in days more days away from work.
